The last newsletter for 2023…

My three tidbits for you to reflect on to inspire you to change the trajectory of your life in 2024.

1. Take a step

Is there something you have been putting off?

Avoiding that hard thing is likely holding you back and making you miss out on opportunities.

Doing hard things is one of the most powerful gifts you can give your future self.

In the words of Viktor Frankl,

What man actually needs is not a tensionless state but rather the striving and struggling for some goal worthy of him. What he needs is not the discharge of tension at any cost, but the call of a potential meaning waiting to be fulfilled by him.

And remember there will be failure along the way. Growth happens when you start the hard thing.

Take the first step...

If that’s too hard, take a tinier step.

2. Find happiness in the climb

Setting goals and reaching the summit is rewarding but gives you happiness for all but a fleeting moment.

And it typically lead to arrival fallacy, a term coined by positive psychology expert Tal Ben-Shahar,

Arrival fallacy is this illusion that once we make it, once we attain our goal or reach our destination, we will reach lasting happiness.”

Find fulfilment and happiness from the trials and tribulations of the climb itself, not just the happiness you get from reaching the summit.

3. You can teach an old dog 🐶 new tricks, but make sure you practise

Stay ahead of the curve by investing in ongoing learning and development in different domains outside your bailiwick to improves your technical and transferable skills.

However, remember to apply the knowledge you have gained straight away in your life. As Derek Sivers said:

If [more] information was the answer, we’d all be billionaires with perfect abs.
