Don’t get a mentor, get a mentee!
Don’t get a mentor, get a mentee!
Mentees have had such a positive impact on my life. I reckon I learn as much from them as they do from me.
These are my three 3 tidbits as to why you should get a mentee if you don’t have one already.
1. Giving Back
Mentoring provides an opportunity to share your knowledge and experience, helping your mentee grow in their career and as a person. At the same time you are also paying it forward to the next generation.
An added bonus is you grow your network through the connections your mentee has. You just never know when you might need to access your mentee’s network in the future!
2. Build your self-belief
I have seen people grow and develop under my guidance which fuels your self-belief. My self-belief grew significantly by seeing the positive impact I had on my mentees, validating my mentoring skills on key topics like leadership and communication.
3. Curiosity to grow
As a mentor, you become much more curious because as you may work with a mentee who has a different worldview to you. Mentees help you to reflect on where you are currently at and opportunities for your own personal growth.
