C = A + C + T
C = A + C + T
A few years ago when I started being interviewed on podcasts, radio and TV after having no experience before that, I had no confidence in my ability to speak in high pressure situations.
This is my secret equation I developed myself to go from having no confidence to having the confidence speaking on podcasts, live radio and live TV to millions of people.
Confidence = Action + Consistency + Trajectory
ACT!
These are my 3️⃣ tidbits on the operators of the equation which you can use in meetings to high-stake situations like job interviews and speeches. I hope ACT helps!
1. Action
Vision alone isn’t enough. You need to take action towards improving your public speaking skills.
For me, when it came to preparing for interviews, I was going to rehearse out aloud at home (not just in my head).
For you, it could also be joining a public speaking group, enrolling in a public speaking course or practising regularly in front of a mirror.
2. Consistency
Confidence doesn't happen overnight. Consistently practising is essential.
For me, it was to rehearse everyday for at least 10 minutes on some of the content I had to be across.
For you, it could be also seeking opportunities to speak publicly, even large meetings are a good way to start. Over time, this consistent effort will turn into muscle memory, kinda like going to the gym to build muscles.
3. Trajectory
It’s important that you set a trajectory of what success looks like in the future if you were a confident public speaker.
In addition, it also helps to visualise the positive outcomes of how your communication can help others who are listening to your message - stand in their shoes.
This trajectory will serve as your motivation, especially when it comes to consistency.
