The three Ps … to avoid
The three Ps … to avoid
People Pleasing
Perfectionism
Putting others first always
At the Women In Law Enforcement Strategy mentoring workshop, we had our roundtable conversation and discussed a number of issues associated with managing your career and the workplace. Through the conversation we came up with the 3 Ps to avoid!
These are my 3️⃣ tidbits on the 3 Ps from that conversation:
1. People pleasing
For some of us, our circumstances have influenced us to be people pleasers at home and in the workplace.
If you are a people pleaser, it’s important to have boundaries. One way to do this is to reflect on your current circumstances and be clear on what it’s important to you.
In addition, you should start to get comfortable in saying, “No” to others.
2. Perfectionism
We discussed the expectation to (some of this indexed to gender, but not always),
never think you're done and that there is always something you can do better
But it is important to remember that being imperfect is perfect.
3. Putting others first always
We make sacrifices at work to the detriment of our own health.
We make sacrifices at home, looking after others all the time.
The key word here is always…
How many analogies can I give you on this one,
Put your oxygen mask first before you help others.
Fill your own cup before pouring into others.
Healthy, wealthy and wise. It’s in that order for a reason. Find ways to make health No. 1.
