Who’s in your 5?
Who’s in your 5?
You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with - Jim Rohn
A study by Michael Housman and Dylan Minor at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management found that simply being near high performers led to a 15% performance increase.
I’ve seen this firsthand.
The people around you (IRL and virtually) shape your mindset, ambition and trajectory.
These are my 3️⃣ tidbits to think about:
1. Audit Your 5️⃣
It’s not about finding the exact 5️⃣ - it’s about cultivating relationships that elevate you. Who in your circle challenges you, expands your thinking, and pushes you to grow? And who might be subtly holding you back?
2. Don’t just have cheerleaders in your 5️⃣
Your 5️⃣ shouldn’t just be cheerleaders - they should be a diverse mix of thinkers, doers and challengers. The best relationships spark “a-ha moments,” offering wisdom, perspective and honest feedback that fuels your growth.
3. Schedule in your 5️⃣
Growth isn’t accidental—it’s intentional.
Don’t leave your relationships to chance.
Proactively schedule time with your 5️⃣ - whether it’s a monthly catch-up or a shared learning experience. And remember, reciprocity matters: being curiosity and pour energy into these connections and you will get it back in spades.
